Box: 1 Fold: 1 Rev. Edw. J. Sourin, SJ: Journal or diary, 1847-1875 Box: 1 Fold: 2 Rev. Edw. J. Sourin, SJ: Notebook Box: 1 Fold: 3 Rev. Edw. J. Sourin, SJ: Poem, "St. Cecilia"
DATE SPAN: 01/01/1847 - 12/31/1875
DESCRIPTION: A small notebook filled with random entries and remarks, from Phil., Frederick, and Baltimore. Some quotations, pious thoughts, memories of anniversaries, it is difficult to make anything from this notebook.
DATE SPAN: 01/01/1840 - 12/31/1888
DESCRIPTION: Covered notebook of medium format with extensive historical entries, almost all of which are from before Sourin's time and which do not, therefore, allude to anything he knew first hand. Most appear to refer to events in early Maryland history and are excerpts from publications or archives. Several hands are evident; one made numerous bibliographic entries, largely of French books from the early 19th c. A yet later hand appears to have made entries about farm management. There is no internal proof that this notebook belonged to Sourin.
DATE SPAN: 09/01/1844 - 10/01/1844
DESCRIPTION: Poem, published in the Catholic Herald (newspaper), September 1944. Also called a hymn, it may have continued in use for a considerable period, as it was reported that a number of his hymns endured.
